Here, or there?

In some cases it is pretty clear where content should go. It seems reasonable that "Works" pages will be on this site. However, with respect to other page types, the answer seems less clear-cut. For example, it seems reasonable to assume at some point that someone might consider adding an entity page for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir [MTC], especially as there is already an individual page for one of the early directors, Evan_Stephens. But Stephens is a character of sufficient significance that there is an article with more detail on him on Big Wiki, and there is a significant page on the Mormon Tabernacle Choir there, too. This seems to warrant consideration of the question of how much duplication of effort there should be between CPDL, and other sources. On the one hand, there is the advantage of having multiple editors, and more input than we would have from within the CPDL community, on the other hand, the Stephens page, which contains information we might not necessarily want on CPDL, shows that there are consequences from giving up too much control. Doesn't the Evan_Stevens link above point to a "Composer Page" due to the one score listed there ? What makes it an "Entity" page. Wouldn't we need a page for Evan_Stevens, quite apart from his historical position of Director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir ? Johnhenryfowler 17:15, 31 October 2007 (PDT)

I ASSUMED that Evan Stevens had a page on CPDL because he had a certain amount of significance for choral music. Inexplicably, I assumed his significance was as an early director of a significant choral entity, and failed to consider the possibility that the significance was because he was a composer. I also do not mean to suggest that Stevens is an "entity", or that his page is an "entity page" as I use the term. If we were to establish a page for the MTC on CPDL, I would consider that to be an "entity page". Still, this is tangential to the question I mean to raise here, which is, "if there is easily accessible, well verified content in other sites (of which I consider Wikipedia to be one example) about an entity, or individual, how much should we encourage or discourage duplicating existing information on CPDL?"

If we were to establish a "chorus" (or "choir", or "choral group", anything but "entity") page for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, then we would have to revisit the issue of hosting pages for (or listing) other choral organizations. I was under the impression that pages for such groups were being suppressed. -- Chucktalk Giffen 07:10, 1 November 2007 (PDT)
