Only the first verse of the text is underlaid in the music: the text of verses 2-4 is printed after the music, but the word-fitting in this edition is editorial. The sharps on the second F in the alto part in bar 14 and the second F in the tenor part in bar 24 are editorial: these notes have no accidentals in the source.

Description: The music of this setting was printed with the words of verses 2-4 on p. 164. The setting is headed 'A Carol, or Redemption the Wonder of Angels. 1749 A 4 Voc.'. Hymn Tune Index tune number 1849. The text is one of three carols attributed in New Church Melody to 'a Gentleman unknown', who sent the texts to Knapp and requested that he set them to music: the other two are Th'Eternal speaks; all heaven attends (dated 1750) and O sight of anguish, view it near (dated 1751).
