è ch'in quei lacci, in quell'arch', in que' dardi
Alto piacer si prova;

eine höhere Lust sich zeigt;
es weiß mein Herz zum Beweis,
dass es nicht verwundet dahinsiecht,
sondern eher süße Freude als Blut vergießt.

English.png English translation

Which news, Cinthia, are these,
that instead of the arc you use your lashes,
and instead of arrows glances,
and instead of meshes the locks of the golden head?
Not does or leopards,
but men and gods you aim and catch.

But it's still a greater wonder,
that by these meshes, this arc and these arrows
is shown a greater delight;
my heart knows, as a proof,
that it doesn't exhaust wounded,
but rather verses sweet joy than blood.
