Description: Christmas is the time when Christians all over the world commemorate the birth of their Lord and Saviour - Jesus Christ the son of God who was once born on this earth to save humanity from satanic destruction. It is normally marked by the renditions of lovely Christmas carols. Most of the carols rendered at Christmas today were composed by ancient musicians. Such carols have lasted for many centuries and decades, and it is hard to find modern day carols that can match their taste and quality, and suitable for Christmas season like the ancient ones. These compositions – “Christ’s Birth Carols” are meant to solve this problem. They are not meant to set aside the lovely compositions of those ancient musicians, but to complement and sustain their efforts, and increase the number of lovely carols suitable for Christmas season. There are two categories of carols that make up this work. Some are Christmas-specific carols suitable for Christmas season only, while others are all-season carols suitable for Christmas season and any other season of the year. The work comprises eleven pieces – ten pieces in English language, and one piece in (Nigerian) Ibibio language, which is my native language. The native piece was meant for those who do not understand English language but do understand Ibibio vernacular so that they too can appreciate the work and also have a feel of Christmas. If you do not understand Ibibio language, do not worry, just follow the English translation.

Carol No. 1: HAVE THOU ROOM FOR LITTLE BABE?
1.
Have thou room for little babe? Have thou bed to lay your king? Christ the son of God is born, born this day in Bethlehem; strike your harp and raise a hymn, sing a song of jubilee, hope of all the earth has come, joy of all is born today.
2.
Sing ye now in blissful note, spread the news o'er all the earth: hope of prisoners has come, freedom to oppressed is here; he shall make the blind to see, he shall cause the lame to walk, he shall make the dump to speak, he shall cause the dead to rise.
3.
Blessed town of Bethlehem, thou art not the least at all, in the land of Judah, thou art not the least at all; as from thee is born today greatest ruler of the earth, thou hast made our morn to rise, thou hast caused our fears to cease.

Carol No. 2: REJOICE, REJOICE
1.
It was on the day of Christmas Angels from Heaven came here below, bringing good tidings of great joy, telling the shepherds that Jesus the saviour is born.
CHORUS
Rejoice, Rejoice, let all the people be glad, join with the choir of Angels singing sweet harmonious praises to the new born king.
2.
"Glory to God in the highest, let endless peace be on earth to men" were the wishes of the Angels who brought the news to the shepherds that Jesus is born.
3.
So even we in unison join all our voices with those on high praising thee God of creation who has revealed your great love for humanity.
4.
We hail thee our great Redeemer, king of all kings who is born today, nations and kingdoms and rulers shall come and bow down and worship your great majesty.

Carol No. 3: BLISSFUL DAWN
1.
'Twas a blissful dawn when Jesus Christ was born in a manger low in Bethlehem, the King and Lord o'er all the universe, he is the saviour who is Christ the Lord.
CHORUS
Go tell it o'er the hills, and tell it o'er the vales the good news that the Son of God is born; o tell it o'er the lands and all the towns around and spread the news that Jesus Christ is born.
 2.
The son of God, the glorious prince of peace, the ruler of all who on earth dwell; Angel foretold his kingdom shall be great, upon the throne of David he shall reign.
 3.
For unto us a precious child is born, unto us a mighty son is given, the gov'nment rests upon His shoulder, and his name Wonderful Counselor is called.
 4.
Rejoice ye lands, exceedingly be glad; Rejoice all ye nations of the earth; your king has come to reign in majesty good will of peace and joy to all He brings.

Carol No. 4: MY SAVIOUR IN A MANGER
1.
See my Saviour humbly lying in a manger, wrapped in the swaddling and laid in a manger; what a big guest in the animals' room today! Wonderful Saviour adorned in humility, born in a manger.
2.
See my Saviour humbly lying in a manger, see the bright Angels to shepherds appearing; how sweet the tidings of great joy to all they bring! Glory to God in the highest for e'er they chant, peace on earth to men.
3.
See my Saviour humbly lying in a manger, and Mary so kind and caring attend Him; hold to your bosom thy trueborn, embrace Him now, wonderful baby conceived right in purity, born in a manger.
4.
See my Saviour humbly lying in a manger, the news swiftly spread around but amazing; what a great king come down from Heav'n to dwell below! Take now thy scepter and reign on your throne for e'er thou son of David.

Carol No. 5: INFANT JESUS RESTING IN THE CRADLE
1.
Oh our love for infant Jesus who is born our precious saviour! Songs of joy we sing to Jesus who is in his cradle laid.
2.
As you lie peacefully resting in the cradle gentle saviour, listen to your faithful people singing joyful hymns to thee.
3.
Can our soft and shiny voices calm your night o blessed baby! Let our gently rolling music be to thee a dreaming sound.
4.
What can we to Jesus offer who for love and kindness cometh? Gold and Myrrh and precious incense let us lay them at His feet.
5.
Glory, power, and exaltation be to thee our king and saviour. Take your staff and reign forever, so we joyous children say.

Carol No. 6: GLORIA IN EXCELSIS DEO
 1.
"Glory to God in the highest, peace on earth, goodwill to men"; Angels of radiance singing, raising their voice on high:
CHORUS
Alleluia, Alleluia gloria in excelsis deo; Alleluia, Alleluia peace good will to men.
Alleluia, Alleluia gloria in excelsis deo; Alleluia, Alleluia peace on earth to men.
2.
Unto our king we are singing, Christ the Lord who's born to us; unto our great Emmanuel, unto our God we say:
3.
Our eyes have seen your salvation made before the face of men, a light unto the Gentiles, the glory of Israel.

Carol No. 7: THE LIGHT OF GOD THAT RULES THE WORLD
1.
The precious love of God come down from Heav'n to earth below, the riches of thy saving grace no mortal can explain, down on my knees I bow and joy to raise my voice and sing: precious is He that bought my soul, great is the love that saved me when I was down on muddy ground and brought me to joys above.
2.
The light of God that rules the world has from on high appeared, thy radiance beams thru all the earth and chase the darkness flee, the straying ones in awe rejoice the path of life to find; shine now and glow sweet guiding light, spread forth to all thy beauty till all the earth thy glory feel and never be gloomed again.

Carol No. 8: LET THE BLESSINGS OF THE LORD ABOUND

Let the blessings of the Lord abound for Jesus the Lord has come, let salvation that he brings abound and give life, and save the lost.
CHORUS
Abound, abound, let the blessings of the Lord abound; Abound, abound, for the saviour Christ the Lord is born.
2.
Let the blessings of the Lord abound and comfort the weary ones, let the manna from above abound and feed all the hungry souls.
3.
Let the blessings of the Lord abound and chase darkness from our way, let the true light of the world abound and lead all the pilgrims home.
4.
Let the blessings of the Lord abound and give peace to everyone, let eternal life to all abound for the giver of life has come.

All kingdoms of men and kings on their thrones are just for season, and time (and term); One king that I know whose kingdom forever shall be is Jesus The Lord.
