General Information

Title: Ego sum panis vivus
Composer: Severin Cornet
Lyricist:
Number of voices: 5vv   Voicing: SSATB
Genre: SacredMotet

Language: Latin
Instruments: A cappella

First published: 1581 in Cantiones musicae, no. 12
Description: Source: Cantiones Sacrae of Cornet a 5, 6, 7 & 8, Plantin, Antwerp, 1581. An attractive setting of this popular text. One curiosity is the quotation in some voice parts, to set the word 'vita', of the distinctive four notes to which that word is set in the Salve regina plainchant: this starts with the Bassus in bar 63.
