Biography
Hungarian composer and master of spiritual music. Pupil of Hennig and Liszt Ferenc (1874). Chorister of Nagyvárad and then in Minster of Esztergom. Next colleague of Bogisich. Naturalized exemplary religious music in Cathedral of Esztergom both in artistic and liturgical way. Founded school for singers. Professional of gregorian chants, Palestrina and newer musical style also. Composed 17 masses, 3 requiems and many other spiritual works. Wrote several study books, articles and some secular works (opera). His most important work is a chorister book titled "Sursum Corda" (1902). Contains popular chants, gregorian chants with variable and invariable parts of Messa, organ accompaniments, hundreds of thematic preludia, up to date spiritual instructions and orders also.
