Born: ca. 1852, Kincardine-on-Forth, Perthshire
Died: 19 January 1910, Edinburgh
Biography
Scottish teacher, translator, and collector of folk songs, mostly in south England. Classics master at the Edinburgh Academy until 1896. Contributed to the Journal of the Folk-Song Society and Cecil Sharp's Folk-Songs of England, Volume III. Some of the songs he collected were arranged by Gustav Holst.
