In a forest dell,
Where the wild deer dwell,
Where the red rose tempts the bee,
We wile away
The sultry day
Under the greenwood tree;

We know the vale
Where the lily pale
Droops beneath the morning dew;
Where the ivy creeps,
And the violet peeps
With its modest eyes of blue.
