Description: A setting of Marot's text which was very popular in its day. A version, distilled for dancing to pipe and tabor, appears in Arbeau's [Tabourot's] Orchésographie (1589). That version was used as the Basse Dance in his Capriol Suite (1929) by Philip Heseltine, writing as Peter Warlock.

Jouissance vous donnerai
Mon ami et vous mènerai
La où prétend votre espérance.
Vivante ne vous laisserai;
Encore quand morte serai,
L'esprit en aura souvenance.

Si pour moi avez du souci
Pour vous n'en ai pas moins aussi,
Amour le vous doit faire entendre.
Mais s'il vous grève d'être ainsi,
Apaisez votre cœur transi;
Tout vient à point, qui peut attendre.

English translation

Love’s climax will I give to you
My friend and I will lead you to
The target of your deep desire.
Alive I will not you eschew,
E’en when my time on Earth is through,
Love’s spirit will remain afire.

If you should have a care for me
For you I’ll care the same degree,
On this Love will you educate.
But if you chafe that it should be,
With me you need not now agree:
For good things come to those who wait.
