German text 1. Dort an der Kirchhofmauer, da sitz' ich auf der Lauer, da sitz' ich gar zu gern; es regt sich im Holunder, es regnet mir herunter Rosin' and Mandelkern. 2. Waldwibichlein, das kleine, das goldige, das feine, das hat es mir gebracht. Es hat ein Schloß im Berge, das hüten sieben Zwerge, darin ist große Pracht. 3. Und es hat mir versprochen, in aberhundert Wochen, wenn Agnes wacker sei, da käm' es in dem Schlitten, zu Gaste mich zu bitten; da seid fein auch dabei!

English translation 1. There in the churchyard quiet, a waiting-place that’s private, the sitting-place I love; a shower most uncommon of raisins and of almonds is falling from above. 2. A tiny little nuthatch, a brown and golden nuthatch, has brought it just for me. His castle in the mountains with seven dwarfs and fountains is fabulous to see. 3. A promise, too, he made me, that in a hundred weeks he would come, if I’ve been nice, and take me for a sleigh ride, as his guest, for a sleigh ride; you can come if you like.
