French text Las si ie nay aultre secours d'une dame que iayme fort ie souffriray maintes douleurs. Si d'elle nay aultre confort de la servir fais mon effort pour acquerir sa bonne grace. S'ell ne mayme elle a grant tort car d'aultre aymer je ne pourchasse. Modern French Hélas, si je n'ai d'autre secours d'une dame que j'aime fort, je souffrirai maintes douleurs. Si d'elle n'ai autre confort, de la servir fais mon effort pour acquérir sa bonne grace. Si elle ne m'aime, elle a grand tort car je ne cherche pas en aimer d'autre.

English translation Alas, if I enjoy no solace from the lady I so dearly love, I shall suffer many pains. If I enjoy no other comfort on her behalf than putting effort into serving her to obtain her good humour. If she does not love me, she is mistaken since I do not plan on loving any other.
