Description: This Magnificat was first published by Haberl in 1885. It can be found in two manuscripts, one in Cappella Giulia without Verse 1, and one in the Lateran with Verse 1. Following Haberl we typed also Verse 1, which may not have been originally part of this Magnificat. Verse 1 is considerably shorter (13 measures) than the other verses (35-40 measures), and it also breaks the symmetrical pattern of voice distribution: Verse 2 SATTB, Verse 4 SSAA, Verse 6 SATTB, Verse 8 TTBB, Verse 10 SATTB, and Verse 12 (Doxology) for 6 voices: SAATTB, wheras Verses 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 are to be sung on plainchant.
Performers may choose to sing Verse 1 polyphonically as typeset here, or to plainchant as the other odd verses.
