English translation
Needle, needle, good fine needles are now prized by these girls from Antwerp,
because they made but a modest profit from spinning, so now they want to quit spinning
and make now the rounds with the sewing basket.
Large and small, each and everyone pretties herself so that she might sew.
I fear, therefore, that the thread will run out in the end,
because everyone wants to sew everywhere.
translation note: Dutch vernacular uses 'to sew' as a synonym for 'making love'. The reference to needles might therefore be a phallic metaphore.
