General Information

Title: Ne perdas cum impiis
Composer: William Byrd
Number of voices: 5vv   Voicing: STTTB
Genre: SacredMotet

Language: Latin
Instruments: A cappella

Manuscript ca. 1575 in The Baldwin Partbooks, no. 19
Description: Another unpublished motet by Byrd, found in the Baldwin Partbooks. The text is drawn from Psalms 26:9 and 140:1, and is intended as a responsory for use during Passiontide. Oddly enough, Byrd does not set the *Gloria Patri* to polyphony, despite setting the verse, and in keeping with other instances of modified plainchant, the cantus firmus is slightly modified for the benefit of the polyphony.
