Description: Although Novum et insigne opus musicum (1537) is the earliest printed source, it has been shown that Nymphes nappés was the original text and Haec dicit Dominus is a contrafactum made by Conrad Rupsch (c.1475-1530).

French text Original text Nimphes nappes neridriades driades venez plorer ma desolation car ie languis en telle affliction que mes espris sont plus mort que malades Cantus firmus: Circumdederunt me gemitus mortis: dolores inferni circumdederunt me. Modern French Nymphes des eaux, Néridriades, Nymphes des bois, venez pleurer ma désolation car je languis en telle affliction que mes esprits sont plus morts que malades.

English translation Water nymphs, Nereids, Dryads, come and mourn my desolation for I suffer such affliction that my spirits are more dead than alive. Cantus firmus: The groans of death have encircled me: the sorrows of hell have enclosed me.
