Description: This is a verse anthem in celebration of the Monarch, texted to ‘Charles’. It is likely it was intended to be performed on the ‘King’s Day’. This traditionally coincided with Epiphany, but this was later moved to the separate celebration of the Accession of the Monarch. It may also be performed on any occasion where prayers for the Royal Family are suitable. This includes services of Evensong and Matins where the State Prayers are used. This verse anthem was Cranford’s most widely distributed work, appearing in a least 19 separate contemporary manuscript collections.

English text
O Lord, make thy Servant Charles, our gracious King, to rejoice in thy Strength: exceeding glad shall he be of thy Salvation.
For thou shalt prevent him with the blessing of goodness: and shalt set a Crown of pure gold upon his head.
His honour is great in thy Salvation: glory and great worship shalt thou lay upon him.
As for his enemies, O Lord, clothe them all with Shame: but upon himself, O Lord, let his Crown flourish.
Amen.
