Edition notes: This edition has been transposed down a tone from the original, which is in A major. The parts are given in the source in the order Tenor - Counter - Treble - Bass (identified in the first piece in the book), with the Counter and Tenor parts printed in the treble clef an octave above sounding pitch. Second treble parts in treble duet passages, given in this edition on the Alto stave, are printed in the source at sounding pitch. The bass part in the original is figured. This figuring has been omitted here: the harmony indicated by the figuring is largely outlined by the voice parts, with the exception of bars 54-63 where the treble-range stave has been added editorially to indicate the harmony accompanying the bass recitative. These notes may be played by treble-range instruments. Tempo and voicing indications in square brackets are editorial. The word 'psalms' in bar 40 is printed in the source as 'Psalm'.
