English text
Descends the mist, and drop the leaves,
Come set the wine-cups clinking,
And let us gild the dreary day
By drinking, yea, by drinking.
Though strange appear the ways of men,
From any country taken,
Yet stands the world, the beauteous world,
Unwasted and unshaken.
What though the heart may fail at times
Why should we yield to sorrow?
Right well we know the faithful heart
Will have a brighter morrow.
Descends the mist, and drop the leaves,
Come set the wine-cups clinking,
And let us gild the dreary day
By drinking, yea, by drinking.
Chill Autumn has its charm, and yet
The violet is wanting;
When Spring returns, the sky will smile
On violets enchanting.
When blooming Spring at length is here,
Ere yet it pass, employ it,
And let us both, my trusty friend,
Enjoy it, yea, enjoy it.
