Clementine Vulgate (Psalm 97)

Latin.png Latin text

1  Psalmus ipsi David. Cantate Domino canticum novum, quia mirabilia fecit. Salvavit sibi dextera ejus, et brachium sanctum ejus.
2  Notum fecit Dominus salutare suum ; in conspectu gentium revelavit justitiam suam.
Viderunt omnes termini terræ salutare Dei nostri.
4  Jubilate Deo, omnis terra ; cantate, et exsultate, et psallite.
5  Psallite Domino in cithara ; in cithara et voce psalmi ;
6  in tubis ductilibus, et voce tubæ corneæ. Jubilate in conspectu regis Domini :
8  Flumina plaudent manu ; simul montes exsultabunt
9  a conspectu Domini : quoniam venit judicare terram. Judicabit orbem terrarum in justitia, et populos in æquitate.

Church of England 1662 Book of Common Prayer

English.png English text

1  O sing unto the Lord a new song : for he hath done marvellous things.
2  With his own right hand, and with his holy arm : hath he gotten himself the victory.
3  The Lord declared his salvation : his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.
4  He hath remembered his mercy and truth toward the house of Israel : and all the ends of the world have seen the salvation of our God.
5  Shew yourselves joyful unto the Lord, all ye lands : sing, rejoice, and give thanks.
6  Praise the Lord upon the harp : sing to the harp with a psalm of thanksgiving.
7  With trumpets also and shawms : O shew yourselves joyful before the Lord the King.
8  Let the sea make a noise, and all that therein is : the round world, and they that dwell therein.
9  Let the floods clap their hands, and let the hills be joyful together before the Lord : for he is come to judge the earth.
10  With righteousness shall he judge the world : and the people with equity.

Allioli-Bibel (1832)

Metrical 'Old Version' (John Hopkins)

English.png English text

O sing ye now unto the Lord
A new and pleasant song,
For he hath wrought throughout the world
His wonders great and strong:

With his right hand full worthily
He doth his foes devour,
And gets himself the victory
With his own arm and pow'r.

The Lord doth make the people know
His saving health and might,
And also doth his justice show
In all the heathen's sight.

His grace and truth to Israel
In mind he doth record,
And all the earth hath seen right well
The goodness of the Lord.

Be glad in him with joyful voice,
All people on the earth,
Give thanks to God, sing and rejoice
To him with joy and mirth:

Upon the harp unto him sing,
Give thanks to him always,
Rejoice before the Lord our King,
With trumpets sound his praise.

Yea, let the sea with all therein
For joy both roar and swell.
The earth likewise let it begin,
With all that therein dwell.

And let the floods rejoice their fills,
And clap their hands apace:
Yea, let the mountains and the hills
Triumph before his face.

For he shall come to judge and try
The world and every wight,
And rule the people mightily
With justice and with right.

Metrical 'New Version' (Tate/Brady)

English.png English text

Sing to the Lord a new-made song,
Who wondrous things has done;
With his right hand and holy arm
The conquest he has won.

The Lord has through th'astonish'd world
Display'd his saving might,
And made his righteous acts appear
In all the heathen's sight.

Of Israel's house his love and truth
Have ever mindful been;
Wide earth's remotest parts the pow'r
Of Israel's God have seen.

Let therefore earth's inhabitants
Their cheerful voices raise,
And all with universal joy
Resound their Maker's praise.

With harp and hymn's soft melody,
Into the concert bring
The trumpet and shrill cornet's sound,
Before th'Almighty King.

Let the loud ocean roar her joy,
With all that seas contain;
The earth and her inhabitants
Join concert with the main.

With joy let riv'lets swell to streams,
To spreading torrents they;
And echoing vales from hill to hill
Redoubled shouts convey;

To welcome down the world's great Judge,
Who does with justice come,
And with impartial equity
Both to reward and doom.

Metrical Paraphrase by Isaac Watts

English.png English text

PART 1. (C.M.)
To our Almighty Maker, God,
New honors be addressed;
His great salvation shines abroad,
And makes the nations blest.

He spake the word to Abraham first;
His truth fulfils the grace;
The Gentiles make his name their trust,
And learn his righteousness.

Let the whole earth his love proclaim
With all her diff'rent tongues,
And spread the honors of his name
In melody and songs.

PART 2. (C.M.)
Joy to the world! the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare him room,
And heav'n and nature sing.

Joy to the earth! the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ,
While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains,
Repeat the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make his blessings flow
Far as the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of his righteousness,
And wonders of his love.

Latvian metrical version

A translation of the second part of Isaac Watts' paraphrase, 'Joy to the world'.
Prieks pasaulei, jo Kungs ir klāt!
Nu Ķēniņš zemei dots!
Lai visas sirdis gavilē par Pestītāju pasaulē,
un debess, zeme dzied.

Prieks pasaulei, lai dziesmas skan:
tai ausis laimes rīts!
Un meži, lauki, pakalni un klintis,
strauti, klajumi lai gaviļdziesmā trīc!

Lai grēks un naids,
un rūpes zūd, un asaras lai žūst!
Viņš nāk pie mums ar svētību, nu sirdis,
dzīvi piepilda. Lai slava Glābējam!

Káldi fordítás (97. zsoltár)

Hungarian.png Hungarian text

A föld minden határa látja a mi Istenünk szabadítását.
Tapsoljanak kézzel a folyók, egyetemben örvendezzenek a hegyek

Haendel uses the second part of Isaac Watts' paraphrase, 'Joy to the world'.
