The merry lark now chants his lay,
While proudly soaring t’ward the sun,
In sweetest strains so free today;
Oh, list! how pure his accents run,
But I, a quail beneath the hedge
Will whistle away with all my might.

Bob White, Bob White, Bob White, Bob White,
O hear his merry song;
Bob White, Bob White, Bob White, Bob White,
It brightly floats along!
Hark! hark! Hark! hark!
O hear his merry song;
Hark! hark! Hark! hark!
It brightly floats along.
Bob White, Bob White, Bob White, Bob White,
Whito, whito, whito, whito.

The mockingbird in lofty tree
Pours forth his notes, quite like the lark,
And does his best to sing like me;
I think ’tis hardly fair, but hark!
I’ll be content beneath the hedge,
And whistle away with all my might.
Yes, other birds may sweeter sing,
And others still may look more fair,
While many soar on loftier wing;
I’m blithe and free without a care.
Though I’m a quail beneath the hedge,
I whistle away with all my might.
