Title

Chuck, why should it be "Chorus title, not entire opera title"? This is not what happens with many other works pages. See for instance other operas that have only a few movements available and Bach's cantatas that group all choruses in a single page. —Carlos Email.gif 05:13, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Carlos. For the simple reason that we are most unlikely to publish a complete Wagner opera. And, even if we eventually do, our descendants can make the necessary changes. :) I really think that we are only likely to publish famous choruses from such operas - not the long dialogues, especially not without having available a suitable piano version for accompaniment. And I got started on this when I noticed the essentially duplicate page, following the course I did that already seemed laid out for me. If you want to change them all the other way around, it's ok with me. By the way, thanks for switching the Lohengrin pages - I didn't notice the history differences. – Chucktalk Giffen 05:35, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
I see your point, Chuck, and I don't mind keeping the current titles, but I have the impression that the standard has been to always incorporate individual movements into the page of the "main work". I can remember to have seen a mass page that has only an edition of the kyrie; should we rename it then to "Kyrie from Mass X" until other movements are available? I'd like to hear others' opinions about this too. —Carlos Email.gif 05:56, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
There are numerous individual pages for parts of Bach cantatas. Also check George Frideric Handel for scads of examples that list parts larger works without being part of a larger work page, mostly arias and choruses from operas and oratorios. Sometimes there is also a page for the larger work, usually containing complete editions but not always containing a list or links to separate items available at ChoralWiki (which needs to be fixed, in my opinion). Also, the Kyrie from The Great Service by Byrd is similarly published here (no larger work page right now). I think that individual parts of larger works can be published under their separate titles and listed on the composer page separately under the larger work title; moreover, if a page exists for the larger work, then there should be links from the parts to the larger work and vice versa, at least until such time as a decision might be taken to incorporate (merge) everything into the larger work page (feasible for smaller scale larger works, infeasible for really large larger works). Sound reasonable? – Chucktalk Giffen 14:11, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
