Talk:Emendemus in melius (Baldassare Donato)

This very interesting piece from a composer previously unknown to me (mea culpa!) is said to be for SAATB. However, it is apparent from the original clef information, kindly put in the score, that the "2nd A" and the T were originally in the same C clef. Also, the tessitura of the "2nd A" part would cause moans from contraltos (and even countertenors !) as it lies between D and D, the same, I think, as the T. So surely the designation should be SATTB?

(Incidentally, all three middle parts are written out in the tenor G clef. I know this used to be the norm for alto parts, but these days altos expect to read from a treble G clef and I think that music for performance should conform with what choirs are expecting.)

Hi Alan,

I'm sure you are correct. I was posting this for the editor, and no doubt made a bad guess as to the voicing. I'm implemented your suggestion. Thanks for your insight.
