It seems to me that this page doesn't serve any useful purpose. The composer page lists the individual songs of this opus. In fact, this page is detrimental since it is included in Sheet music and Romantic music categories, messing up the statistics. --Bobnotts talk 15:38, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

In my opinion this page as well as other similar pages is not useless. As the vast majority of Brahms’ works is organized in collections/song cycles it is fine to have such ‘summarizing pages’ reflecting an entire opus. In the past this has been applied to i.e. Brahms’ Liebeslieder-Walzer. I’d only have a problem with the CPDL ID assigned to no edition. May I suggest to contact the editor if he could merge the individual songs into one complete edition? That’s what I am doing with my scores. If we hadn’t these work (opus?) pages we couldn’t submit complete editions—we’d have to delete i.e. Neue Liebeslieder. Walzer. respectively. —Robert Urmann 16:26, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
  • I tend to agree with Robert Urmann on this; these pages are useful, as they can contain more detailed information that would not be apropriate in the composer's page. But I also agree with Bobnotts that they should not belong to "sheet music" categories; a category:Larger works was created specifically for such pages, though I'm not sure this category would be appropriate for song cycles. What do others think? —Carlos Email.gif 18:05, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
I also tend to agree with Robert Urmann, and I further feel that in the case of song-cycles (as with cantatas, oratorios, and most other multi-movement works), it is better to have all movements on the main song-cycle page in lieu of separate pages for each other movements. Why should song-cycles be singled out for separate treatment? One can still list titles of individual movements on the composer page. – Chucktalk Giffen 00:32, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
For me as well this page is more useful than the sub-pages, and though I find it very convenient for the files to be split in this case, there will be times when better page turns can be obtained by laying out scores as one big book ( Acis and Galatea, HWV 49 (George Frideric Handel) is perhaps not the most convincing example ;-) ). On Messiah, HWV 56 (George Frideric Handel) the trend has been toward consolidation, with Hallelujah perhaps to be relegated to to its crowded subpage.
Category:Larger works confuses me: is it for collections like the Mozart Notturni or for all multi movement works like Samson? Going by the name alone many might assume it's for evening length pieces. Richard Mix 23:08, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
