English text
When springtime comes with fairy step
Upon the sunny hill,
We love to wander by the stream,
And listen to the mill.
We think, as there we stand alone,
As the brooklet murmurs past,
That the mill will never grind again
With the water that has passed.
Then listen to the watermill,
As the brooklet murmurs by,
Oh, the mill will never grind again
With the water that has passed.
It calls us back to happy days,
When ’neath a cloudless sky,
We wandered to the watermill
To watch the stream go by.
Oh, happy days we loved so well,
They could not always last,
But like the water by the mill,
They glided on too fast.
Thus ever like the running stream,
Our days glide swiftly away,
And though they bring us joy or grief,
They never come to stay.
They turn awhile the old millwheel,
To grind the golden grain,
Then like the water in the brook,
They never come again.
