English text
Oh, what a thirsty year we're in!
My throat has ever parched been,
From morn to night 'tis dry;
I'm like a fish upon the sand,
Or droughty piece of barren land;
Bring wine, or I shall die.
Oh, bring me wine!
The wind that blows is westward bound,
No rain, no dew, to cool the ground,
No drinking stays my thirst,
To drink and drink is still my cry,
The cellar must be nearly dry,
Of earthly ills the worst.
Oh, bring me wine!
Now all who love the noble juice,
Of which great Bacchus taught the use,
Fill high each sparkling glass.
Be this the toast, and drink it round,
May this year's growth be shortly found
All others to surpass.
Oh glorious wine!
