Softly the night winds sigh,
Sleep, dearest, sweetly sleep;
Sweet be thy dreams, while I my vigils keep.
Sleep while the moon, afar,
Floods all the earth with light;
Sleep, while the beaming stars whisper a sweet goodnight.

Softly, sweetly sleep, then for no danger is near thee:
Dream till the dawn's early light,
Dream until the morning bright,
For angels will guard thee tenderly, dear,
thro' all the silent night;
Thus may our lives ever glide together,
as we're drifting on.
For I will be ever at thy side,
Until the night is gone.

Sleep, dearest, sweetly sleep,
Soft winds are whisp'ring low;
Night spreads her mantle deep
O'er all elow.
Sleep while the moon, afar,
Floods all the earth with light,
Sleep, while the beaming stars whisper a gentle goodnight;
Dear heart sleep on until the dawn.
