How do I register on CPDL?

Click on the link in the top right corner of any page "Log in / create account"

How can I sign my messages on talk pages?

CPDL is a wiki which means that it has many different contributors. To identify users on discussion pages, it is necessary to sign comments. You may do this simply by typing four tildes (~~~~) after your message. Typing three tildes will just add your username whilst typing five tildes will output the time and date. Please note that you should only sign messages left on talk (discussion) pages and not on article pages.

How can I merge score pages?

If there are two score pages for the same work but with slightly different titles, the pages should be merged so that all editions of a work appear on the same score page. If you have located such pages and don't feel confident in following the instructions below, please use the cleanup template to flag the page for another user to sort out.

  1. First, open both score pages in either two windows or two tabs of your browser.

How do I report errors in a score?

If you have noticed one or more errors in a score on CPDL, please report them so that users who download the score can make the necessary alterations before duplication and the editor can correct the score and provide an updated version.

Short answer
Use the ScoreError template under where it says "Edition notes" on the score page and state the error(s).

Long answer
The best way to go about reporting errors is to use the "ScoreError" template. You will need to be logged in. If you have not already registered on the site, please follow the instructions above. Locate the editon's score page and click "Edit" tab at the top of the page. You should now see the page's code. Each edition's code will look something like this:

*<b>CPDL #9935:</b> [http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/images/b/b8/Tunes_for_Archbishop_Parker%27s_Psalter-_3.pdf {{pdf}}] [http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/images/3/36/Tallis_Third_Tune.MUS Finale 2005]
:<b>Editor:</b> [[User:Tim Blickhan|Tim Blickhan]] <i>(added 2005-10-10)</i>.   <b>Score information: </b>Octavo, 1 page, 114 kbytes   <b>Copyright:</b> [[ChoralWiki:Public Domain|Public Domain]]
:<b>Edition notes:</b>

After the final line of code which reads :<b>Edition notes:</b> type the following:

{{ScoreError|(type the error here) ~~~~}}

The curly brackets tell the wiki that you wish to use a template, then you specify the template ("ScoreError") then after the pipe ("|"), you specify the variable which will display as text in the box which this particular template will create. The four tildes (~~~~) will output your username with a link to your user page and the date and time of your post. Then save the page with an appropriate summary. If the above code was typed into a page and saved, the following would be produced:

Error.gif Error summary - (type the error here) Bobnotts talk 05:00, 11 August 2007 (PDT) (See discussion page for full description

If there are a number of errors, they should be posted on the talk page. Follow the instructions above but type "see talk page" as the variable of the template. Save the page with an appropriate summary. Now click on the "Discussion" tab at the top of the page (the link may be blue or red). Click on the plus sign next to the edit tab. Type an appropriate title in the "Subject/headline" box, such a "Errors in edition #9935". Then describe the errors in the main box and sign your post with four tildes (~~~~). Save the page with an appropriate summary.

It may also be a good idea to email the editor of the score so that he or she can correct the error and re-upload the score. Editors may include their email address on their scores or on their user page. The user page is linked from the score page. In the example above, it is User:Tim Blickhan, but unfortunately there isn't an email address available. If the errors are significat, it may also be useful to post a message on the forum as some users check it frequently but rarely check their own user page or user talk page.
