Description: Micyllus's Sylvarum libri quinque presents two poems under the title Confide et ama ("trust and love"), the motto of George of Austria (1505–1557), illegitimate son of Emperor Maximilan I and Prince-Bishop of Liège. Confisus Domino is the first of them and was also set by Pinchon (whose setting is also included in Thesaurus musicus). Lassus sets Confide et ama as an ostinato with varying note values, in Tenor 1. The second poem, Vivere vis recte, was set by Wismes and Lechner and its first half by Gerarde. All these settings except that by Gerarde similarly feature the text Confide et ama as an ostinato. Lechner was a pupil of Lassus, and his Vivere vis recte, which is voiced similarly to Lassus's Confisus Domino, may be intended as a companion piece to it.
