Ernest Markham Lee was born in Cambridge, England. He was educated at the Perse School and Emmanuel College, where he studied under [[Charles Wood]]. He was Professor of Organ at the Guildhall School of Music, Extension Lecturer to Oxford, Cambridge and London Universities, and was Organist at All Saints Woodford Green. He was also Examiner to the Associated Board and the Royal Schools of Music, taking him to Canada, New Zealand, India, Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Malta and Jamaica. He died in Eastbourne, England. He wrote books on musical history and biography, as well as theory and musicianship skills. His compositions include a light opera, orchestral music, piano and organ pieces, assorted instrumental pieces, cantatas, and part-songs.
