As evening’s purple shadows darken
On the lea,
The silv’ry echoes mingle, harken!
Full and free.

The mountains sing, sweet vales reclining,
In repose,
And brooklet’s murmur ever shining,
To their close.

Echoes, echoes, echoes, echoes,
Hark! hear the echoes reply,
List to the echoes,
Sweet evening echoes reply.

The vesper horn is softly blending,
Far away,
Its tones of melting sweetness ending,
With the day.

Around, above, like angel voices,
On the ear,
The harmony of eve rejoices,
Softly, sweetly clear.
