folgt auf des Tages Sorg' und Last.

Es schweigt der Wald, es schweigt das Tal:
Die Vögel schlafen allzumal,
sogar die Blume nicket ein,
und schlummert bis zum Tag hinein.

2  Schon rieselt nieder kühler Tau
auf Halm und Blatt im Feld und Au,
im Laube spielet frische Luft,
und Blüt' und Blume spendet Duft.

Der Abendstern mit güldnem Schein
blickt in die stille Welt hinein,
als rief' er jedem Herzen zu,
sei still, sei still, und schlaf' auch du!
