Description: First published in Pilsbury's The United States Sacred Harmony, 1799, p. 163. Words by Charles Wesley, 1742, based on John 1:42, with six stanzas. Original words in Pilsbury 1799 were by an unknown author, the second stanza of a hymn which begins, "Our most indulgent Savior," probably by an English author before 1769; the words in Pilsbury begin "The place of John we'd covet."
