Giesu nostro riscatto,
nostro amore e desio,
padre del tutto e Dio,
nel fin de tempi huom fatto.

Qual ti vinse pietà,
che gli error nostri porte,
soffrendo acerba morte
per noi scampar di là?

Giù nell'inferno vai,
tuoi prigion riscotendo,
poi vincitor salendo
del Padre al lato stai.

Signor tu nostra gioia,
tu premio di vittoria,
in te la nostra gloria
Sia sempre, e mai non moia.

English translation

Jesus, our redeemer, our love and desire,
father of the universe and God, made man in the last times,
what pity led you to bear our sins,
suffering bitter death to rescue us?
Down into Hell you go, bursting the bounds of your prison,
then rising victorious and standing at the Father’s side:
Lord, you are our joy and our prize,
may our glory be in you for ever without end.
