Biography

Italian theorist and composer. He was a leading theorist of counterpoint in the 16th century. In his book Le istitutioni harmoniche, a landmark in the history of music theory, he achieved an integration of speculative and practical theory and established Willaert’s methods as models for contrapuntal writing. —Grove Online
