Description: First published in The Universal Psalmodist, 1763, pp. 124-125. Words by Charles Wesley, 1749. This is actually four stanzas of Wesley's hymn; Stanza 2 was published again under the name St. Thomas by Williams in 1770. The version in modern hymnals has been considerably re-arranged and revised.
