Johann Simon Mayr spent a good part of his life in Bergamo, Italy, where he taught and directed the music at the main cathedral. Among his students was Gaetano Donizetti. This piece was transcribed from the original manuscript found at the main library in Bergamo. There are two versions extant; this one and an earlier version for smaller orchestra.
