Born: 14 May 1754, Grafton, Massachusetts

Died: 14 Jan 1841, Cheshire, Massachusetts

Biography

John Leland was an American Baptist minister. In September, 1779, he married Sally Devine of Hopkinton, Massachusetts. He and his wife moved to Virginia, where he reportedly influenced James Madison to include prohibition against a state church in the Constitution's Bill of Rights. The last part of his life was spent in Massachusetts.
