1 Lässt Salomon sein Bette nicht umgeben,
Steh sechzig nicht allhier

Behold by the bed which is of Solomon
The knights of Israel stand
Three score valiant men of Israel there are,
‘gainst all his foes to stand.
They hold swords having been trained in war and might,
which swords hang by their side.
Prepared for all that may befall him by day
or in fear of the night.
Solomon the king took wood from Lebanon
a chariot bed to make.
The pillars thereof were of good silver made
the base thereof of gold,
Purple was its covering and in its midst
the tapestries of love.
For his queen O daughters of Jerusalem
His bed he has prepared.
Go forth you daughters of Zion to behold
the crownèd Solomon.
The king with crown of glory is seated now
as on his wedding day
crowned with the wedding crown his mother crowned him
on that espousal day.
Now the day of his heart’s gladness has arrived.
The glory has begun.
The German text is quite a free paraphrase of the Song 3:7-11. I have therefore also been quite free in my paraphrase of the German, moving it closer to the original text.
