German text „Lebe wohl!" —Du fühlest nicht, Was es heißt, dies Wort der Schmerzen; Mit getrostem Angesicht Sagtest du's und mit leichtem Herzen. „Lebewohl!" —Ach tausendmal Hab' ich mir es vorgesprochen, Und in nimmersatter Qual Mir das Herz damit gebrochen.

English translation “So, farewell!” —You do not sense what it means, these words of sorrow. Your sweet face bore confidence, when you spoke, you spoke with a light heart. “So, farewell!” —A thousand times silently these words I’ve spoken, and in never-ending pain, for each time my heart is broken.
