Description: Fayrfax's PhD submission to Oxford University in 1511. As such, it is written to display skills in mathematical planning and inventive mensural schemes. The version in the Caius Choirbook is a simplification of the lost original which was probably notated in numerous different colours for the coloration, and contained verbal instructions for singers to work out rhythmical riddles. This complex piece almost defies representation in modern editions, and therefore compromises have to be made. The editor has attempted to represent triplet passages so as to be quickly understood at sight, accepting the necessity for more ties.
