Latin text O quam moesta dies, nimium lachrimabile tempus, gaudia laetitiae procul, adsunt tristia quaeque: nunc rubeant oculi fletu. Heus, pectora planctu fracta fluant crebri singultus cordis et oris. Haec lugenda dies cecidit qua morte Philippus strenuus ille Croy: quem vere nobilitatis acta perornatum consortia sanctum secutum aeterna statuat requiescere pace redemptor.

English translation Oh day of grief, time of deepest sorrow, unrelieved by any feeling of joy; all is gloom and despondency: now let our eyes be red with weeping. Alas, as we mourn, may we not hold back from sobbing, feeling his loss in our hearts and bewailing it with our voices. This is a day of great sadness, for he is dead: Philip de Croy, that man of great vigour: he was famed for his noble deeds and was a follower of a holy brotherhood; may the Redeemer grant him eternal rest.
