Biography Attaingnant leased out a printing press 13 January 1514 (1513 Old Style) and is described in the contract as a "bookseller, living in Paris"; he published a breviary in 1525 and 2 years later began printing music, receiving a patent and in 1537 the title "imprimeur et libraire du Roy en musique". His death occurred between October 3 1551 and the end of 1552. He is not definitely known to have been a composer himself.
