English text
Far from this throbbing bosom haste,
Ye doubts and fears that lay it waste,
Dear anxious days of pleasing pain,
Fly, never to return again.
But ah! return, ye smiling hours,
By careless fancy crowned with flow'rs,
Come fairy joys, and wishes gay,
In sportive rounds to dance away.
So shall the moments gaily slide
On life's impassioned, chequered course,
Nor e'er by grief be turned aside,
To seek oblivion's peaceful source.
