{{Verse|1}} Hear my law, O my people: incline your ears unto the words of my mouth.
{{Vs|1}} Hear my law, O my people: incline your ears unto the words of my mouth.
{{Verse|2}} I will open my mouth in a parable: I will declare hard sentences of old;
{{Vs|2}} I will open my mouth in a parable: I will declare hard sentences of old;
{{Verse|3}} Which we have heard and known: and such as our fathers have told us;
{{Vs|3}} Which we have heard and known: and such as our fathers have told us;
{{Verse|4}} That we should not hide them from the children of the generations to come:<br>
{{Vs|4}} That we should not hide them from the children of the generations to come:
but to shew the honour of the Lord, his mighty and wonderful works that he hath done.
but to shew the honour of the Lord, his mighty and wonderful works that he hath done.
{{Verse|5}} He made a covenant with Jacob, and gave Israel a law: which he commanded our forefathers to teach their children;
{{Vs|5}} He made a covenant with Jacob, and gave Israel a law: which he commanded our forefathers
{{Verse|6}} That their posterity might know it: and the children which were yet unborn;
to teach their children;
{{Verse|7}} To the intent that when they came up: they might shew their children the same;
{{Vs|6}} That their posterity might know it: and the children which were yet unborn;
{{Verse|8}} That they might put their trust in God: and not to forget the works of God, but to keep his commandments;
{{Vs|7}} To the intent that when they came up: they might shew their children the same;
{{Verse|9}} And not to be as their forefathers, a faithless and stubborn generation: a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit cleaveth not stedfastly unto God;
{{Vs|8}} That they might put their trust in God: and not to forget the works of God,
{{Verse|10}} Like as the children of Ephraim: who being harnessed, and carrying bows, turned themselves back in the day of battle.
but to keep his commandments;
{{Verse|11}} They kept not the covenant of God: and would not walk in his law;
{{Vs|9}} And not to be as their forefathers, a faithless and stubborn generation:
{{Verse|12}} But forgat what he had done: and the wonderful works that he had shewed for them.
a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit cleaveth not stedfastly unto God;
{{Verse|13}} Marvellous things did he in the sight of our forefathers, in the land of Egypt: even in the field of Zoan.
{{Vs|10}} Like as the children of Ephraim: who being harnessed, and carrying bows,
{{Verse|14}} He divided the sea, and let them go through: he made the waters to stand on an heap.
turned themselves back in the day of battle.
{{Verse|15}} In the day-time also he led them with a cloud: and all the night through with a light of fire.
{{Vs|11}} They kept not the covenant of God: and would not walk in his law;
{{Verse|16}} He clave the hard rocks in the wilderness: and gave them drink thereof, as it had been out of the great depth.
{{Vs|12}} But forgat what he had done: and the wonderful works that he had shewed for them.
{{Verse|17}} He brought waters out of the stony rock: so that it gushed out like the rivers.
{{Vs|13}} Marvellous things did he in the sight of our forefathers, in the land of Egypt: even in the field of Zoan.
{{Verse|18}} Yet for all this they sinned more against him: and provoked the most Highest in the wilderness.
{{Vs|14}} He divided the sea, and let them go through: he made the waters to stand on an heap.
{{Verse|19}} They tempted God in their hearts: and required meat for their lust.
{{Vs|15}} In the day-time also he led them with a cloud: and all the night through with a light of fire.
{{Verse|20}} They spake against God also, saying: Shall God prepare a table in the wilderness?
{{Vs|16}} He clave the hard rocks in the wilderness: and gave them drink thereof,
{{Verse|21}} He smote the stony rock indeed, that the waters gushed out, and the streams flowed withal: but can he give bread also, or provide flesh for his people?
as it had been out of the great depth.
{{Verse|22}} When the Lord heard this, he was wroth: so the fire was kindled in Jacob, and there came up heavy displeasure against Israel;
{{Vs|17}} He brought waters out of the stony rock: so that it gushed out like the rivers.
{{Verse|23}} Because they believed not in God: and put not their trust in his help.
{{Vs|18}} Yet for all this they sinned more against him: and provoked the most Highest in the wilderness.
{{Verse|24}} So he commanded the clouds above: and opened the doors of heaven.
{{Vs|19}} They tempted God in their hearts: and required meat for their lust.
{{Verse|25}} He rained down manna also upon them for to eat: and gave them food from heaven.
{{Vs|20}} They spake against God also, saying: Shall God prepare a table in the wilderness?
{{Verse|26}} So man did eat angels' food: for he sent them meat enough.
{{Vs|21}} He smote the stony rock indeed, that the waters gushed out, and the streams flowed withal:
{{Verse|27}} He caused the east-wind to blow under heaven: and through his power he brought in the south-west-wind.
but can he give bread also, or provide flesh for his people?
{{Verse|28}} He rained flesh upon them as thick as dust: and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea.
{{Vs|22}} When the Lord heard this, he was wroth: so the fire was kindled in Jacob,
{{Verse|29}} He let it fall among their tents: even round about their habitation.
and there came up heavy displeasure against Israel;
{{Verse|30}} So they did eat and were well filled, for he gave them their own desire: they were not disappointed of their lust.
{{Vs|23}} Because they believed not in God: and put not their trust in his help.
{{Verse|31}} But while the meat was yet in their mouths, the heavy wrath of God came upon them, and slew the wealthiest of them: yea, and smote down the chosen men that were in Israel.
{{Vs|24}} So he commanded the clouds above: and opened the doors of heaven.
{{Verse|32}} But for all this they sinned yet more: and believed not his wondrous works.
{{Vs|25}} He rained down manna also upon them for to eat: and gave them food from heaven.
{{Verse|33}} Therefore their days did he consume in vanity: and their years in trouble.
{{Vs|26}} So man did eat angels' food: for he sent them meat enough.
{{Verse|34}} When he slew them, they sought him: and turned them early, and inquired after God.
{{Vs|27}} He caused the east-wind to blow under heaven:
{{Verse|35}} And they remembered that God was their strength: and that the high God was their redeemer.
and through his power he brought in the south-west-wind.
{{Verse|36}} Nevertheless, they did but flatter him with their mouth: and dissembled with him in their tongue.
{{Vs|28}} He rained flesh upon them as thick as dust: and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea.
{{Verse|37}} For their heart was not whole with him: neither continued they stedfast in his covenant.
{{Vs|29}} He let it fall among their tents: even round about their habitation.
{{Verse|38}} But he was so merciful, that he forgave their misdeeds: and destroyed them not.
{{Vs|30}} So they did eat and were well filled, for he gave them their own desire:
{{Verse|39}} Yea, many a time turned he his wrath away: and would not suffer his whole displeasure to arise.
{{Vs}} they were not disappointed of their lust.
{{Verse|40}} For he considered that they were but flesh: and that they were even a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.
{{Vs|31}} But while the meat was yet in their mouths,
{{Verse|41}} Many a time did they provoke him in the wilderness: and grieved him in the desert.
{{Vs}} the heavy wrath of God came upon them, and slew the wealthiest of them: yea,
{{Verse|42}} They turned back, and tempted God: and moved the Holy One in Israel.
and smote down the chosen men that were in Israel.
{{Verse|43}} They thought not of his hand: and of the day when he delivered them from the hand of the enemy;
{{Vs|32}} But for all this they sinned yet more: and believed not his wondrous works.
{{Verse|44}} How he had wrought his miracles in Egypt: and his wonders in the field of Zoan.
{{Vs|33}} Therefore their days did he consume in vanity: and their years in trouble.
{{Verse|45}} He turned their waters into blood: so that they might not drink of the rivers.
{{Vs|34}} When he slew them, they sought him: and turned them early, and inquired after God.
{{Verse|46}} He sent lice among them, and devoured them up: and frogs to destroy them.
{{Vs|35}} And they remembered that God was their strength: and that the high God was their redeemer.
{{Verse|47}} He gave their fruit unto the caterpillar: and their labour unto the grasshopper.
{{Vs|36}} Nevertheless, they did but flatter him with their mouth: and dissembled with him in their tongue.
{{Verse|48}} He destroyed their vines with hail-stones: and their mulberry-trees with the frost.
{{Vs|37}} For their heart was not whole with him: neither continued they stedfast in his covenant.
{{Verse|49}} He smote their cattle also with hail-stones: and their flocks with hot thunderbolts.
{{Vs|38}} But he was so merciful, that he forgave their misdeeds: and destroyed them not.
{{Verse|50}} He cast upon them the furiousness of his wrath, anger, displeasure and trouble: and sent evil angels among them.
{{Vs|39}} Yea, many a time turned he his wrath away: and would not suffer his whole displeasure to arise.
{{Verse|51}} He made a way to his indignation, and spared not their soul from death: but gave their life over to the pestilence;
{{Vs|40}} For he considered that they were but flesh: and that they were even a wind that passeth away,
{{Verse|52}} And smote all the first-born in Egypt: the most principal and mightiest in the dwellings of Ham.
and cometh not again.
{{Verse|53}} But as for his own people, he led them forth like sheep: and carried them in the wilderness like a flock.
{{Vs|41}} Many a time did they provoke him in the wilderness: and grieved him in the desert.
{{Verse|54}} He brought them out safely, that they should not fear: and overwhelmed their enemies with the sea.
{{Vs|42}} They turned back, and tempted God: and moved the Holy One in Israel.
{{Verse|55}} And brought them within the borders of his sanctuary: even to his mountain which he purchased with his right hand.
{{Vs|43}} They thought not of his hand: and of the day when he delivered them from the hand of the enemy;
{{Verse|56}} He cast out the heathen also before them: caused their land to be divided among them for an heritage, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
{{Vs|44}} How he had wrought his miracles in Egypt: and his wonders in the field of Zoan.
{{Verse|57}} So they tempted and displeased the most high God: and kept not his testimonies;
{{Vs|45}} He turned their waters into blood: so that they might not drink of the rivers.
{{Verse|58}} But turned their backs, and fell away like their forefathers: starting aside like a broken bow.
{{Vs|46}} He sent lice among them, and devoured them up: and frogs to destroy them.
{{Verse|59}} For they grieved him with their hill-altars: and provoked him to displeasure with their images.
{{Vs|47}} He gave their fruit unto the caterpillar: and their labour unto the grasshopper.
{{Verse|60}} When God heard this, he was wroth: and took sore displeasure at Israel.

Clementine Vulgate (Psalm 77)

Latin.png Latin text

1  Intellectus Asaph. Attendite, popule meus, legem meam; inclinate aurem vestram in verba oris mei.
nota facere ea filiis suis:
8  ne fiant, sicut patres eorum, generatio prava et exasperans;
12  Coram patribus eorum fecit mirabilia in terra Aegypti, in campo Taneos.
13  Interrupit mare, et perduxit eos, et statuit aquas quasi in utre:
14  et deduxit eos in nube diei, et tota nocte in illuminatione ignis.
15  Interrupit petram in eremo, et adaquavit eos
velut in abysso multa.
25  Panem angelorum manducavit homo; cibaria misit eis in abundantia.
  Adhuc escae eorum erant in ore ipsorum,
36  Et dilexerunt eum in ore suo, et lingua sua mentiti sunt ei;
40  Quoties exacerbaverunt eum in deserto; in iram concitaverunt eum in inaquoso?
43  sicut posuit in Aegypto signa sua, et prodigia sua in campo Taneos;
45  Misit in eos coenomyiam, et comedit eos, et ranam, et disperdidit eos;
46  et dedit aerugini fructus eorum, et labores eorum locustae;
47  et occidit in grandine vineas eorum, et moros eorum in pruina;
48  et tradidit grandini jumenta eorum, et possessionem eorum igni;
49  misit in eos iram indignationis suae, indignationem, et iram, et tribulationem,
immissiones per angelos malos.
50  Viam fecit semitae irae suae: non pepercit a morte animabus eorum,
et jumenta eorum in morte conclusit:
51  et percussit omne primogenitum in terra AEgypti; primitias omnis laboris eorum
in tabernaculis Cham:
dextera ejus;
  et ejecit a facie eorum gentes,
et sorte divisit eis terram in funiculo distributionis;
conversi sunt in arcum pravum.
58  In iram concitaverunt eum in collibus suis,
70  Et elegit David, servum suum, et sustulit eum de gregibus ovium;
  de post foetantes accepit eum:
71  pascere Jacob servum suum, et Israël haereditatem suam.
72  Et pavit eos in innocentia cordis sui, et in intellectibus manuum suarum deduxit eos.

Church of England 1662 Book of Common Prayer

English.png English text

1  Hear my law, O my people: incline your ears unto the words of my mouth.
2  I will open my mouth in a parable: I will declare hard sentences of old;
3  Which we have heard and known: and such as our fathers have told us;
4  That we should not hide them from the children of the generations to come:
but to shew the honour of the Lord, his mighty and wonderful works that he hath done.
5  He made a covenant with Jacob, and gave Israel a law: which he commanded our forefathers
to teach their children;
6  That their posterity might know it: and the children which were yet unborn;
7  To the intent that when they came up: they might shew their children the same;
8  That they might put their trust in God: and not to forget the works of God,
but to keep his commandments;
9  And not to be as their forefathers, a faithless and stubborn generation:
a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit cleaveth not stedfastly unto God;
10  Like as the children of Ephraim: who being harnessed, and carrying bows,
turned themselves back in the day of battle.
11  They kept not the covenant of God: and would not walk in his law;
12  But forgat what he had done: and the wonderful works that he had shewed for them.
13  Marvellous things did he in the sight of our forefathers, in the land of Egypt: even in the field of Zoan.
14  He divided the sea, and let them go through: he made the waters to stand on an heap.
15  In the day-time also he led them with a cloud: and all the night through with a light of fire.
16  He clave the hard rocks in the wilderness: and gave them drink thereof,
as it had been out of the great depth.
17  He brought waters out of the stony rock: so that it gushed out like the rivers.
18  Yet for all this they sinned more against him: and provoked the most Highest in the wilderness.
19  They tempted God in their hearts: and required meat for their lust.
20  They spake against God also, saying: Shall God prepare a table in the wilderness?
21  He smote the stony rock indeed, that the waters gushed out, and the streams flowed withal:
but can he give bread also, or provide flesh for his people?
22  When the Lord heard this, he was wroth: so the fire was kindled in Jacob,
and there came up heavy displeasure against Israel;
23  Because they believed not in God: and put not their trust in his help.
24  So he commanded the clouds above: and opened the doors of heaven.
25  He rained down manna also upon them for to eat: and gave them food from heaven.
26  So man did eat angels' food: for he sent them meat enough.
27  He caused the east-wind to blow under heaven:
and through his power he brought in the south-west-wind.
28  He rained flesh upon them as thick as dust: and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea.
29  He let it fall among their tents: even round about their habitation.
30  So they did eat and were well filled, for he gave them their own desire:
  they were not disappointed of their lust.
31  But while the meat was yet in their mouths,
  the heavy wrath of God came upon them, and slew the wealthiest of them: yea,
and smote down the chosen men that were in Israel.
32  But for all this they sinned yet more: and believed not his wondrous works.
33  Therefore their days did he consume in vanity: and their years in trouble.
34  When he slew them, they sought him: and turned them early, and inquired after God.
35  And they remembered that God was their strength: and that the high God was their redeemer.
36  Nevertheless, they did but flatter him with their mouth: and dissembled with him in their tongue.
37  For their heart was not whole with him: neither continued they stedfast in his covenant.
38  But he was so merciful, that he forgave their misdeeds: and destroyed them not.
39  Yea, many a time turned he his wrath away: and would not suffer his whole displeasure to arise.
40  For he considered that they were but flesh: and that they were even a wind that passeth away,
and cometh not again.
41  Many a time did they provoke him in the wilderness: and grieved him in the desert.
42  They turned back, and tempted God: and moved the Holy One in Israel.
43  They thought not of his hand: and of the day when he delivered them from the hand of the enemy;
44  How he had wrought his miracles in Egypt: and his wonders in the field of Zoan.
45  He turned their waters into blood: so that they might not drink of the rivers.
46  He sent lice among them, and devoured them up: and frogs to destroy them.
47  He gave their fruit unto the caterpillar: and their labour unto the grasshopper.
48  He destroyed their vines with hail-stones: and their mulberry-trees with the frost.
49  He smote their cattle also with hail-stones: and their flocks with hot thunderbolts.
50  He cast upon them the furiousness of his wrath, anger, displeasure and trouble:
and sent evil angels among them.
51  He made a way to his indignation, and spared not their soul from death:
but gave their life over to the pestilence;
52  And smote all the first-born in Egypt: the most principal and mightiest
in the dwellings of Ham.
53  But as for his own people, he led them forth like sheep:
and carried them in the wilderness like a flock.
54  He brought them out safely, that they should not fear: and overwhelmed their enemies with the sea.
55  And brought them within the borders of his sanctuary: even to his mountain which he purchased
with his right hand.
56  He cast out the heathen also before them:
caused their land to be divided among them for an heritage,
  and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
57  So they tempted and displeased the most high God: and kept not his testimonies;
58  But turned their backs, and fell away like their forefathers:
starting aside like a broken bow.
59  For they grieved him with their hill-altars:
and provoked him to displeasure with their images.
60  When God heard this, he was wroth: and took sore displeasure at Israel.
61  So that he forsook the tabernacle in Silo: even the tent that he had pitched among men.

Azaf oktatása.
Figyelmezzetek, én népem, az én törvényemre; hajtsátok fületeket az én szám igéire.
Megnyitom számat példabeszédekben, titkos dolgokat szólok kezdettől.
A miket hallottunk és értettünk, és atyáink beszélettek nekünk, –
nincsenek eltitkolva azok fiaitól a következő nemzedékben. Elbeszélték az Úr dicséretét, és az ő hatalmát és csodatetteit, melyeket cselekedett;
És kisértették az Istent szivökben, midőn lelköknek ételt kértenek;
Ezt meghallá az Úr, és elhalasztá; és tűz gerjedett Jákobra, és harag szállt Izraelre;
Hányszor búsították őt a pusztában, s indították őt haragra a vizetlen helyen?
midőn vérré változtatta azok folyóvizeit és árjait, hogy nem ihattak;
mindenféle legyet bocsátott rájok, mely megemészté őket; és békát, mely elpusztitá őket;
és a ragyának adá gyümölcsüket, és termesztményeiket a sáskának;
és elverte jégesővel szőlőiket, és szederfáikat dérrel;
és a jégesőnek adá barmaikat, és jószágukat a tűznek;
midőn rájok bocsátotta boszankodása haragját, a boszankodást és haragot és szorongatást, – csapásokat a gonosz angyalok által;
midőn utat csinált haragja ösvényének, s nem kimélte a haláltól lelköket, és barmaikat a halálnak szánta;
és megölt minden elsőszülöttet Egyiptom földén, minden munkájok zsengéit Kám hajlékaiban;
és kivezette őket reménységben, és nem féltek; és ellenségeiket a tenger elborította;
és bevitte őket megszenteltetése hegyére, a hegyre, melyet az ő jobbja szerzett; és kiűzte szinök elöl a nemzeteket, és elosztá nekik a földet sors által az osztás kötelével;
És megvetette József hajlékát, és nem választá Efraim nemzetségét;
