First published unattributed in three-part form (Treble-Tenor-Bass) in Wyeth's Repository, Part Second (1813), reprinted in the 1847 edition of Southern Harmony. William Hauser added an Alto part in his The Hesperian Harp of 1848. Words by an unknown author, apparently first appearing in Wyeth's Repository, Part Second in 1813, with four stanzas.
