Se da l'aspra ferita al feritore innante,
esce sangue spumante,
che meraviglia è ch'io,
donna a begl' occhi vostri le mie lacrime mostri,
quei me feriro il seno col lor vivo baleno,
e quel doglios humore altro non è
che sangue, oime, del core.

Bij een bittere wond aan het binnenste,
komt er schuimend bloed uit,
hoe geweldig is het dat ik mijn tranen
aan je mooie ogen schenk,
die mijn borst pijn doen met hun helderheid,
en die pijnlijke humor is niets anders
dan bloed, o wee, van het hart.
