Original text and translations

Italian.png Italian text

Se di dolor io potessi morire,
Donna crudele, m’havresti già morto,
Solo per far contento il tuo desire,
Ma non t’accorgi ingrata
Che’l morir mi saria vita beata.

German.png German translation

Wenn ich vor Kummer sterben könnte,
grausame Frau, hättest du mich schon getötet,
nur um dein Verlangen zu befriedigen,
aber empfinde dich nicht als ungnädig,
das Sterben wäre mir seliges Leben.

Translation by Gerhard Weydt

English.png English translation

If I could die by grief,
cruel lady, you would already have killed me,
only to gratify your desire,
but don’t feel yourself ungracious,
for dying would be to me blissful life.

Translation by Gerhard Weydt

French.png French translation

Si je pouvais mourir de chagrin,
femme cruelle, tu m’aurais déjà tué,
seulement pour satisfaire ton désire,
mais ne te sente ingrat,
comme la mort me serait la vie béate.
