::Chuck, your proposal sounds quite fair, I'll write him about this. I'd just wait a bit longer, who knows how long will it take for him to log in again and read my message. What about one month? Since there's no score page yet, people won't find the PDFs so easily. ::: Hi Carlos. One month is fine. The PDF links are on the composer page. I'm off now, driving to and from Madison today to pick up my son from UW-Madison orientation - about 550 miles round trip in one day!! -- [[User:CHGiffen|Chuck]][[User talk:CHGiffen|<small>'''talk'''</small>]] [[User:Charles H. Template:NewWork
Hi Chuck. Your recent edits to the above template seem to have messed it up so I've reverted them for the moment. I figured on a template so widely used, it was best to revert even for the short term. Cheers --Bobnotts talk 00:21, 1 July 2008 (PDT)
- Hi Rob. Thanks for reverting the template. I had noticed something was wrong this morning when one goes to, say Category:2008-06-30, and I had finally tracked it down to Template:NewWork, but didn't have time to finish straightening things out. It all seems to have stemmed from an attempt to add a sortkey 9, which was botched (and probably not necessary, although the intent was to have say "The Haven" sort under "Haven, The"). I'll think about it later. -- Chucktalk Giffen♫ 04:16, 1 July 2008 (PDT)
- Hi Chuck, please have a look at a test I am doing with this template to make it date-conditional. I made use of another template named IsNew that tests the passed parameter date against a range of dates and returns "yes" or "no" as the answer. It's in fact a very simple and, unfortunately, non-automated template, but which has the advantage of being backward-compatible, since it accepts as parameter a date in the format yyyy-mm-dd. The negative part is that it would require a monthly maintenance in order to add/remove one month from each extremity of the test values. It is set now to answer "yes" to dates ranging from 2008-07-31 to one year back. I suppose you'd like to extend it to two years, if it gets approved by you and Rob. --Carlos huh? 04:34, 12 July 2008 (PDT)
- Hi Carlos. I thought about using almost exactly such coding as in Template:IsNew, but felt that the necessity of maintaining the template every month, more-or-less, would put yet another burden on the admins, amd I suppose I was hoping that we could implement something that was backward-compatible, even though it might require another parameter, which would at least take effect down the road. The advantage of the IsNew mechanism is that it immediately takes care of the stale NewWork icons and listing. I guess it's a question of trade-offs, and I'm inclined to leave your coding intact, at least for the present, and wait for others to weigh in on the mattter. -- Chucktalk Giffen♫ 22:12, 12 July 2008 (PDT)
- Hi Chuck, I know this is not what we both had in mind, but given the lack of functionality of this wiki instalation, that's perhaps the only option we have, though we can keep trying to find a better solution anyway. At least the maintenance will be restricted to just one page instead of all the old score pages. :) --Carlos huh? 03:04, 13 July 2008 (PDT)
Alto clef for awkward work...
The Alto Clef award | ||
for techie work essential to the functioning of CPDL is hereby awarded to Chuck Giffen for regular improvements and additions to the templates used on CPDL which allow it to function so well. — Bobnotts talk 23:54, 1 July 2008 (PDT) |
- Oh, wow, thank you, Rob! And I had hoped (or envisioned) the A in alto might stand for "altruism" ... but I quite relish your take on it! Again, many thanks. -- Chucktalk Giffen♫ 23:58, 1 July 2008 (PDT)
- Ha ha - I like "awkward work" because I remember learning to read the alto clef for my grade 5 theory exam and thinking "why on earth would anyone want to use this clef?". So, an award for complicated work executed precisely (not a comment on the awardee's character!) Do you think it's worth making these awards into templates? I don't expect they'll get used that often but it might be worth it. I could do it if you're busy... --Bobnotts talk 00:44, 2 July 2008 (PDT)
- I did have in mind setting up some award templates when I uploaded the various clef images, and maybe a page that describes them, with recommendations as to using them, with links to the templates. Now that someone else thinks it might be a good idea, I think we can get to work on it (although it's not a high priority item), cribbing from the Wikipedia barnstars treatment. -- Chucktalk Giffen♫ 01:30, 2 July 2008 (PDT)
Iñigo Igualador compositions
Hi Chuck, have you seen the scores uploaded by User:Desconocido? (whose name, by the way, is Spanish for "Unknown"). They have a copyright notice that reads: © Ed. "El Sanedrín - PANDERGÓ" S.L - Queda prohibida toda copia y/o reproducción de esta partitura sin permiso expreso del editor (Prohibited any copy and/or reproduction of this score without express authorization of the editor). Would it be the case to delete them? Unless of course "Desconocido" is the composer himself, but how can we know it for sure? Just asking him? --Carlos huh? 08:17, 21 July 2008 (PDT)
- Yes, I think we have to ask him, making note of your observation about copyright, and with a condition that, if there is now reply within one week (or other period, at your discretion), then all will be removed. Does this sound fair? -- Chucktalk Giffen♫ 08:30, 21 July 2008 (PDT)
- Chuck, your proposal sounds quite fair, I'll write him about this. I'd just wait a bit longer, who knows how long will it take for him to log in again and read my message. What about one month? Since there's no score page yet, people won't find the PDFs so easily. Regards. --Carlos huh? 01:21, 22 July 2008 (PDT)
