Warum liegt im Krippelein
der Herr aller Dinge?
Ist denn das die Wiegen sein,
so schlecht und geringe?
Wo ist denn das Purpur-Kleid?
wo sind, die ihm dienen, Leut?
Wo ist sein Palaste,
hier ist nichts als Armut groß,
er liegt gar elendig bloß,
ist das denn die Raste?

Dahin hat die große Lieb
mächtig mich gezwungen,
sonst, wo ich noch außen blieb',
wär's der Sünd' gelungen,
aber mit der Armut mein
will ich dir bedienet sein
und dich gar reich machen,
mein Geburt ein Opfer ist,
so ich leist' zu dieser Frist
und helf zu den Sachen.

O wie soll ich loben Dich,
loben, rühmen, singen?
Dieses Werk, so wunderlich,
macht mich fröhlich springen.
Ehr' sei dir, dir Ehre sei,
dir gebührt all' Herrlichkeit
als dem Herrn der Ehren.
Dir muss alle Melodei
zu Lob und Dienst sein bereit
und dich des gewähren.
