Description: In the source, the S1, S2, B1 and B2 parts are printed in the Cantus, Altus, Quintus and Bassus partbooks respectively. The A1, A2, T1 and T2 parts are a canon 4 in 1, in retrograde, inversion and retrograde inversion: The Tenor partbook contains the A1 part and is headed: Octo vocum. MISERICORDIA & VERITAS Obviaverunt sibi JUSTITIA & PAX Osculatae sunt. CANON. This quote — Psalm 84:11 (Vulgate) "Mercy and truth are met together; justice and peace have kissed each other." — is intended as a clue to the way that the other three parts are derived, following the example of earlier motets by Senfl, Gumpelzhaimer and others. de Monte also wrote a 5-voice setting of words from the same psalm.

English translation To you, Lord, I lift my soul. My God, I trust in you; do not let me be ashamed, neither let my enemies deride me.
